Overexposed (picture challenge #421)

O·ver·ex·pose

  1. expose too much, especially to the public eye or to risk. “anybody in the public eye has situations that make them feel overexposed”
    • PHOTOGRAPHY: expose (film or a part of an image) for too long a time or for extra time.”the sunlit background is overexposed”

Last month’s Reddit picture challenge was “overexposed.”

Both definitions to the word Overexposed – which is the theme for last month’s r/photographychallenge Picture Challenge – hit home with me. First, exposing too much to the public eye or risk. With the current COVID-19 pandemic nearly at the top of our current worries, the graduating class of 2020 is certainly overexposed as well.

Whether high school or college grads, these young adults have had their lives turned upside down. From watching ailing or dying family members, friends, neighbors, etc. to the uncertainty of whether they can afford to take the next steps (job, education, travel?) there’s much exposure to risk these young adults are facing.

Not to mention the exposure to increased emotional, psychological and physical challenges they are now facing.

As I photographed a recent class of 2020 graduate, I overexposed the photo (not by choice lol) and it truly embodies the Picture Challenge #421 theme.
